Traditional acupuncture works to maintain equilibrium. It is based on the philosophy that pain and disease result from an imbalance of energy flow through channels or meridians in the body. Re-establishing balance involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body, to regulate the flow of the body’s vital energy or qi. Treatment is aimed at the root cause of the problem as well as the symptoms.
This form of acupuncture uses diagnostic techniques of observing the tongue and pulse as a way of getting to the root of general lack of health and vitality.
Some of the conditions that can be helped by acupuncture include:
RESPIRATORY – stopping smoking, asthma, bronchitis, sinus problems, hay fever
DIGESTIVE – irritable bowel, constipation or loose bowels, hiatus hernia, excess stomach acid
URINARY – frequency, water retention, cystitis
CARDIOVASCULAR – high or low blood pressure, circulation problems, anxiety related palpitations
NEUROLOGICAL – headaches, tinnitus, insomnia
MUSCLE AND JOINT – arthritis, particularly of the knees
Acupuncture treatments are provided on Fridays by Sue Johnson.
